Below is a series of pencil-test animations made by Mike Milo and Harry McLaughlin during our days in art school. These are tests shot with a 3/4" single-frame editing VCR, and a camera mounted over an animation stand. These weren't classroom assignments; they were pieces we wrote and produced on our own time, just for the sheer joy of animating. Creating animation has always been a passion for both of us.

Mike animated this little gem in a single day. Dr. Futenstein is a mad scientist who has discovered the secrets of creating life! Or has he?

This cartoon is the genesis of a show idea we later sold to Universal called 'Cool Patrol'. The premise revolves around a pair of crime-fighters that battle against 'major-league un-coolness' rather than normal crime.

This was a film Harry made in honor of the more rabid comic-book 'fan boys'. Fanboy leaves sheer havoc in his wake en route to the comic book store to get the latest issue of 'Ultra-Girl'.

Harry's very first pencil test. Space alien comes to earth hoping to find intelligent life, but instead finds that the young life forms aren't very bright.

Bongo the gorilla was one of the very first Zaptoons characters. In this test by Mike Milo, he finds a unique way of chalking his pool cue.

An early color piece by Harry. I used a vintage 286 PC to trace and color each frame of animation, and dump the frames to video. I did this as a test for an MTV promo spot.
